These essential elements are dictated by the ISO 6425 standard for divers’ watches, which also requires rigorous testing for low-light visibility, magnetic-resistance, and shock resistance, among other things. Beyond that, the genre is a blank slate for creativity, with each brand putting its spin on the design through the choice of materials, details, and finishes.

All of Alpina’s watches are dedicated to the pursuit of extreme performance, whether on the summit of a mountain, in the cockpit of a plane, or deep under the ocean. One of the brand’s signature design features, the Extreme case, speaks to this identity in its mountain-inspired shape and its sturdy 3-part construction. This 40mm brushed and polished stainless steel case makes its way into the Seastrong collection for the first time this year in three versions of the Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic. The first features an anthracite dial and integrated steel bracelet borrowed from the Extreme line of mountaineering watches, while the other two offer the choice of a navy blue dial or an orange flange, each with a similarly matching rubber strap. With hours, minutes and date on the dial, each watch is ISO-approved and certified water-resistant to an impressive 300m.
Beyond its capabilities as a diver’s tool, the new Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic distinguishes itself with unique design elements that speak to Alpina’s adventurous identity. Keeping with traditional dive watch design, the Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic features a serrated unidirectional bezel that’s been upgraded with a ceramic insert for optimum durability. A screw-down caseback and crown similarly help the watch attain its 300m depth rating, and both are engraved with Alpina’s mountain logo. The mountain motif is also put to more subtle use throughout the watch, reappearing in the texture of the dial as well as in the triangular marker at 12 o’clock. An integrated steel bracelet with brushed and polished surfaces, a sturdy three-link design, and a deployant clasp is also available, making the Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic — like all of the best dive watches — as stylish on land as it is practical at sea.
