The ‘weird’ way Shania Twain, 58, removes her make-up with 2 kitchen ingredients – as fans in awe that she ‘hasn’t aged’
FOR at least a decade, Shania Twain has been using two popular kitchen ingredients to remove her make-up.
The Nineties country-pop singer, 58, hasn’t touched real make-up remover in years after creating a homemade skin scrub.
Fast forward to 2024, her hack is still going strong, with some fans believing it has helped her defy natural signs of ageing.
In a tutorial for Harper’s Bazaar, the You’re Still The One singer divulged that she mixes olive oil and white sugar together to create a face scrub.
“I just mix that in the palm of my hand,” she said.
“I don’t use make-up remover, per se.
“I really just combine the olive oil and the sugar.
“I don’t rub it in hard, I’m just softly doing this.”
It’s not the first time Shania has been honest about the homemade skincare product, despite fans insisting the “crazy” hack “must hurt”.
Some have even warned that sugar is “so abrasive on the skin”.
“This is going to sound weird, but because I’m travelling so much, I take sugar and a bit of olive oil or any face cream that I’ve got handy,” she told The Cut in 2017.
“And I mix it with a little bit of warm water, and I gently scrub my face.
“I came up with it myself. It’s very hard to find an exfoliator that I really like – I tried so many.
“I have tried very fine sand before as well, but it’s a little bit too abrasive.
“Sugar works well because it softens with a little bit of warm water and it’s not sharp on the skin.”
‘HASN’T AGED A DAY’
The skincare solution clearly works, though.
Back in March, the Man! I Feel Like A Woman! singer had fans speechless as she defied age in a new social media video.
She replied to a fan’s comment on TikTok discussing empowerment and being a role model to young women.
In the comment section other fans swooned over the music star’s looks and how she “hasn’t aged a day”.
Some called her “drop dead gorgeous” and asked for her “secrets” to looking so good at 58.
The importance of sun cream in your skincare routine
Dermatologist and skincare enthusiast Andrea Suarez - known as Dr Dray - revealed why you should wear suncream.
The one thing you can do that will make the biggest difference – and this matters for all ages – is protecting your skin from the sun, Andrea stressed.
“The vast majority of external aging is due to exposure to ultraviolet radiation,” she continued, not because you’re “not using some jazzy serum or layering 90 different things on your face everyday”.
“If you’re not doing in your 20s, get on that now.”
But she said the use of sun cream alone doesn’t go far enough. Andrea urged that you also wear sun-protective clothing like broad-brimmed hats and long sleeves, on top of not staying out too long in the sun.
Doing this over your lifetime – and all year, not just during the summer or on sunny days – “will reduce the visible signs of photoageing”, Andrea said.
Those are wrinkles, muddled pigmentation and sagging skin.
