'Staggering display of cowardice': Trump VP hopeful shredded by CNN panel
A CNN panel on Monday hammered Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) for refusing to say whether he would accept the results of the 2024 presidential election.
After playing a clip of Scott repeatedly deflecting when asked by NBC News' Kristen Welker about accepting the election results, former Tim Scott campaign adviser Matt Gorman made the case that the senator was simply reflecting the views of Republican voters who falsely believe that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.
Legal analyst Eliot Williams, however, made short work of this talking point.
"That might be where certain primary voters are but that is a staggering display of cowardice from a sitting senator," he said. "He can't say, 'I will support the next president of the United States' or will accept the results of the next election. It's just remarkable... that we've sunk so low as a nation that we can't have a major party and folks who might be vice president look at a camera and say, 'I will accept the results of a free and fair election.'"

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) said the GOP's total capitulation to Trump was an ominous sign for the future of American democracy.
"My friends, the strength of our democracy is that you have confidence that the elections are held fair and squarely, that you believe in the outcome," she said. "We're now moving closer to what you see in other countries where democracy's toppled and you have dictators, when people say... 'If I don't win, we're going to overthrow the government.'"
Dingell then emphasized that "January 6th was a precursor to what we could be seeing in this next election, and it should scare all of us."
