Fears Britain’s heaviest man may not have proper funeral after mum struggles to find somewhere to cremate 50st frame
BRITAIN’S heaviest man may not get a proper send-off following his death as his body is too big.
Jason Holton’s grieving mum Leisa is struggling to find somewhere capable of cremating his 50-stone frame.
She said: “Jason wanted to be cremated but there are concerns he might be too wide for the chamber.
“If he has to be buried, it is going to cost a lot of money that I haven’t got — he would need a double plot instead of a single.
“We need to give him a proper send off. I miss him a hell of a lot. I loved him very much.”
Jason, 33, died this month of organ failure and obesity.
Leisa, 55, kept vigil by his bedside at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford, where he was transferred by special ambulance to which six firefighters carried him.
She said: “I’ve had a friend calling funeral homes and one asked for Jason’s dimensions.
“His weight isn’t the concern, it’s just that he might be too wide. I am not sure he will fit into a hearse.
“One funeral firm says they will provide a larger, rectangular coffin for him and think they have figured out how they will transport him.”
Jason became the UK’s heaviest man after 65st Carl Thompson died in 2015.
He began overeating as a teen while grieving his dad’s death.
In 2020, Jason had to be lifted by crane from his two-bed flat in Camberley, Surrey, after falling ill.
He tried to cut back on his eating after that and lost three stone while at a private nursing home.
He suffered several mini heart attacks, was unable to walk and confined to his bed at home in a Hampshire village.
Leisa said Jason became seriously unwell in February, adding: “I think the pain was caused by his kidneys stopping working and the right side of his heart being damaged.
“But right until the end Jason was most worried about me and whether I would be OK. He was a brilliant person, very kind and considerate.”
