Baton Rouge police officer helps deliver baby roadside
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge Police Officer was working a normal shift before he was caught by surprise in delivering a newborn baby.
On Saturday afternoon, BRPD Corporal Jason Lee was working an extra shift and was headed down Greenwell Springs Road when he noticed a passing vehicle was trying to get his attention.
BRPD said in a Facebook post that the driver of the vehicle informed Lee that her daughter was about to have a baby and needed a police escort to a nearby hospital.
Lee told the driver to follow him to the hospital before he was instructed to pull over. Lee and the driver pulled onto the shoulder on Florida Boulevard and Central Thruway.
Lee requested medical assistance and began helping the mother in labor, the post stated.
Lee was credited with delivering a healthy baby boy.
