‘We’ll have to think’ – Radu Dragusin’s agent opens door to potential Spurs exit
Radu Dragusin’s agent Florian Manea has said that while the centre-back is prepared to be patient and bide his time at Tottenham, the Romanian would have to reconsider his future if he continues to struggle for game time next season.
Dragusin would have known when he signed for Spurs in January that it would be difficult for him to force his way into the starting eleven, given the partnership that Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have forged.
However, there is no doubt that the 22-year-old would have expected to play more than he has. His cause has not been helped by the fact that Tottenham are not in Europe this season and were knocked out of both domestic cup competitions in the early stages.
Radu Dragusin needs to be patient for Spurs chances
With Spurs looking set to return to Europe, Dragusin will likely get more chances to impress next season and Manea has called for his client to remain patient.
When asked about the defender’s lack of game time at Tottenham, he told CalcioNapoli24: “He must have patience, he has two important players in front of him, in the end he will find space.”
Maneo acknowledged that Ange Postecoglou is not inclined to using a back three but suggested that Dragusin could find a place in the starting eleven if the Australian changes his mind.
He also said that Tottenham’s January signing could help rectify some of the side’s defensive issues in set-pieces.
He continued: “The coach has said many times that he doesn’t want to play three (at the back), he knows better, but he concedes a lot of goals for Tottenham.
“Playing with three gives you more security that you won’t concede too many goals. Tottenham concede a lot of goals from set pieces, I think Dragusin will find space in the future because Tottenham need his power.”
When asked about the former Genoa man potentially returning to Italy, he said: “If he doesn’t play we’ll have to think of other solutions, but at the moment I don’t think so because he only arrived in January. Then you never know in life, let’s hope not, but you never know.”
Manea was then asked what would happen if Postecoglou tells Dragusin that he will remain backup centre-back next season and he responded: “If he told him that, I don’t think Dragusin would stay and not play.”

While it is easy for fans to talk about building a strong squad and having top-class backups, the reality is that the delicate balance of the dressing room could be affected if some players do not play.
Dragusin would be wondering at the moment if his choice to join Tottenham was the right one. Adarabioyo and the other centre-backs whom Spurs are interested in might look at the Romanian’s situation as a cautionary tale on why they should not join the Lilywhites this summer.
