“Total backyard makeover,” they wrote.
The Reddit user said that it was their very first time carrying out a home renovation.
“My brother helped me get the fence up in a day,” they said.
“I got the patio laid in about four weeks, working a lot of evenings and weekends.
“I’m the type of person who gets laser-focused on finishing something so I have more time to enjoy it.
“The other little projects I completed over time in an afternoon or a weekend.”
LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE
The backyard patio clearly had some TLC, with much of the excess clutter removed.
The Reddit user also added a smoothly-paved patio and ambient lighting.
“The paver patio involved the removal of three tons of dirt, which I did by hand with a spade shovel,” they said.
“I then filled in the hole with eight inches (about 20 centimeters) of compacted crusher run gravel to establish a solid base before putting down sand and laying the pavers.
“Since my yard slopes slightly upward away from the house, I decided to add a small step up into the grass and graded the patio towards an existing drain to help with water runoff.”
THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS
The DIY-savvy Redditor explained how implementing certain outdoor pieces made all the difference.
They installed a fireplace that was custom-made and purchased from Facebook Marketplace.
How to make your backyard a little paradise
Houna Bech is an interior designer and founder of the style blog With Houna.
She revealed to The U.S. Sun five tips for transforming a drab outdoor space into a “sensory-rich little paradise.”
1. Embrace nature
“Use your landscaping, trees, flowers, and organic environment as your muse,” she said.
2. Bring the inside out
“Repeat color palettes, textures, and materials so the transition between indoors and out is seamless,” she said.
3. Create zones for specific purposes
“I might design a luxurious cabana with plush loungers and vanities for alfresco makeup sessions with my girlfriends,” she said.
4. Prioritize comfort
“I’m talking cloud-like sectionals, upholstered daybeds, and oversized weather-resistant poufs you can really envelop yourself in,” she said.
5. Get creative
“Finally, turn your entire outdoor area into an artistic installation,” Bech said.
“A few other minor touches include string lights, an ‘accent wall fence’ with some leftover porch paint,” they said.
They also fire-stained their new fence before adding a clear coating and used “some pre-existing stones to add flower beds and a walkway to the back gate.”
“My only future plans are to hopefully add a small shed in the rear corner of the yard.”
They said that the cost of the backyard was well worth it for a job well done.
“All in I’m guessing it was around $3,000 plus hours of my own labor,” they said.
“Worth it to me though.”
