Right now we have about six weeks until the transfer window opens. Roughly four weeks after that our season effectively starts with League Cup groups.
We have to shift players out, but much more importantly we need to bring a significant number of new players very quickly.
We don't need signings at the death near the end of the window on 2nd September, we could already have kneecapped our season by then. We need guys in at the very start of the window to give them as much of the month before the league cup as possible to bed in so that we hit the ground running.
If NM leaves in the next fortnight and a new manager is in place within days of that then the new manager gets about a month to think about what he wants to do before the window opens. And that's a month in which he pretty much won't see the players playing or have them around for the whole period to get to know them.
I'd say that in that scenario we are already teetering on the brink of being stuffed regarding improving the squad in time to make a difference for next season. If alternatively NM is staying then they need to come out and make that absolutely clear so that he can get on with it. I don't think he's up to it at all but if they're giving him the chance then say so.
This review and speculation on the manager both need to conclude bloody fast otherwise next season is 'transitional' again. In fact it probably already is whether its NM or someone else in charge.
