Portal Update: Sion James Getting Close?
A potentially valuable addition to the Blue Devils.
Duke is still fishing in the transfer portal and Sion James, formerly of Tulane, is in for a visit this weekend.
James would be a valuable addition. Although he’s listed at anywhere from 6-4 to 6-7, his bio at Tulane pegs him at 6-6.
He played point for Tulane which would make him an intriguing addition for Duke since both Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster are similar sized guys who can both play point. We don’t know much about his defensive talents but since that’s likely to be a priority, he’s probably solid on that end too.
You can even imagine situations where all three could be on the court at the same time which would be really interesting. Duke ran Jason Williams and Chris Duhon together at the turn of the century and won a championship in 2001. Having three skilled point guards on the court at the same time presents all sorts of interesting scenarios.
No one is saying a championship is on the way but the versatility is intriguing.
Some on X are already reporting a commitment but as of now, that’s still rumor and conjecture.
If he does commit, that would give Duke a solid portal class of James, Maliq Brown from Syracuse and Mason Gillis from Purdue, all of whom bring extensive experience to Durham.
Here’s some video of James in action.
