Wet weekend weather continues in western Oregon, Washington
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A late season and weak atmospheric river will continue to keep skies rainy over Portland this weekend.
Rain showers are expected to last from sunrise to sunset on Saturday as temperatures suffer. Afternoon highs will sit over 10 degrees cooler than expected for the first weekend in May. Temperatures in some locations along the Willamette Valley will struggle to get warmer than the mid-50s.
Rain accumulation alone will amount to nearly an inch on Saturday. The extent of the rain accumulation seen from the start of the storm to the end of the weekend will likely be near Portland's average monthly rainfall of 2.51 inches.
Heavy mountain snow will also return to the region this weekend. Mountain pass travel will likely be difficult as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Sunday morning above 3,000 feet.
Wet weather around Portland will be less than ideal for the 37th Annual Portland Cinco de Mayo Fiesta this weekend. Rain will keep temperatures cooler throughout the rain event, so dress in layers and stay dry.
Warmer and drier skies are expected to work back into western Oregon and Washington by the end of next week. Lingering showers will slow the warming process after the weekend, but some locations could climb to almost 80 degrees by the end of next week.
