Premier League manager confirms he wanted to sign Harry Kane from Spurs last summer
Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has discussed his pursuit of Harry Kane last summer, and confirmed he did indeed want to sign the striker before his move to Bayern Munich.
Kane ended his long association with Tottenham last summer to make the switch to Bayern Munich, with Spurs deciding to cash in on their talismanic striker.
He’s had a great time out in Germany since, too, on a personal level. Kane now has 43 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions (Transfermarkt).
Bayern have failed to win the league title this year, but do still stand a chance of securing the Champions League if they can get past Real Madrid in the second leg of the semi-final next week.
Whether he will get the silverware he craves or not remains to be seen, but it would appear he made the right call in turning down the advances of Manchester United, who are currently sixth in the Premier League.
Harry Kane didn’t want to join Manchester United
Kane was repeatedly linked with the Red Devils last summer, and now Erik ten Hag has admitted he tried and failed to convince the England captain to join him at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag told Sky (via Fabrizio Romano): “Yes, you know Kane will get you 30 goals. He’s a striker who already proved it, who we wanted to sign and we couldn’t get him. So we went for Højlund. He’s a big talent. Rasmus will get there [30 goals], but he needs time.”
Spurs Web Opinion
As much as I was gutted to see Kane leave last summer, I’m really glad he didn’t join another Premier League club. It’s been bad enough watching him score all those goals in Germany, but if he was doing it here in England I think I would have to stop watching.
