Legendary Blue Peter presenter, 66, has barely-aged a day 41 years after leaving the kids’ TV show
SHE made history when she became the youngest Blue Peter presenter in the early 80s.
And four decades later, Sarah Greene, 66, looks barely any older.
The veteran TV star left The One Show viewers stunned last night when she appeared on the programme in a colourful mini dress.
The bubbly blonde presenter was in fine form, flashing a pearly white smile as she spoke to hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp.
Viewers watching at home flocked to social media site X to comment on her age-defying looks.
One person posted: “Does Sarah Greene actually age?”
Another said: “‘Sarah Greene is on telly & still looks amazing at 66. You’re welcome.”
A third wrote: “Sarah Greene was my favourite on Blue Peter. How have I aged and she hasn’t?”
Sarah made her big return to the limelight last year after taking a decade long break from TV following the death of her husband Mike Smith.
Mike, who ran his own aerial filming firm, died following complications relating to heart surgery at the age of 59.
Earlier in his life he enjoyed a career in broadcasting as a BBC Radio 1 DJ and presented on Top Of The Pops.
After his death, Sarah began running his business and was largely absent from telly screens save for the occasional guest appearance hosting This Morning, which saw her reunited with ex-colleague Phillip Schofield.
TV icon Sarah was just 22 when she replaced Tina Heath on Blue Peter in 1980.
After three years on the programme – during which time it won a Bafta – she moved on to host Saturday Superstore with Mike Read and then Going Live! with Schofield.
There was much personal success with the latter as Sarah scooped Best Female on TV at the SOS Awards for three years running.
Tragedy almost struck Sarah and her husband Mike in 1988 when the pair were involved in a helicopter crash.
Fortunately they were both back working not long afterwards and went on to form a successful on-screen partnership on the BBC‘s Hospital Watch in the early 90s.
Speaking about stepping away from the industry after Mike’s death, Sarah told the Mirror: “Offers of TV came in but for a long time I was trying to learn this new business but also feeling too raw.
“Only time can help that, you know when you feel ready when you have that energy.”
NEW ROMANCE
Early last year it was revealed Sarah was in a relationship with Mike’s friend and former touring car champion Robb Gravett.
Sarah told The My Time Capsule podcast: “I sort of know Mike is pulling so many strings in my life.
“He has undoubtedly been responsible for me meeting my beloved who was one of his oldest friends, who waited a certain amount of time but did keep leaving messages on the answering machine. I thought he was just being kind.
“Then I got a message almost saying ‘for God’s sake, Greeno, Robb is trying to make contact with you because he actually wants to take you out, not because he’s kind. So will you just get off your a**e and go and answer the phone next time it rings!’
“And lo and behold, a whole new conversation started. I’m sure, and Robb is very sure too, because it’s a very strange situation.
“I remember being terribly worried and saying to this dear man who I’d known for all these years ‘isn’t it strange coming into the house and seeing all these pictures everywhere of Mike?’
“He said ‘No, no, it’s not strange. It’d be strange if they weren’t there. And remember, I love him too.”
TV RETURN
And last summer she teamed up with Roman for a new BBC game show.
The Finish Line welcomes five contenders each episode to battle it out in a race for a cash prize.
Across a series of rounds, they work to ensure they are not last in order to still be in with a chance of bagging the money.
Knowledge equals speed, so the more you know, the further you go.
Roman, 30, said at the time: “I’m so excited to be hosting The Finish Line, coming to BBC One this summer.
“I’m a huge fan of quiz shows and with this being my first time hosting one, I really can’t wait for people to see it.
“I love that it’s a brand-new format but based on an iconic horse-racing fairground game. The show is challenging and unpredictable; we know that viewers will be hooked!”
Sarah added: “I’m absolutely thrilled that people can watch The Finish Line soon.
“It’s quickfire, nail-biting and utterly compelling. AND I get to keep cheeky Roman Kemp and our fabulous contestants on their toes!”
The show is produced by Potato, which is the same production company behind The Chase, Sitting On A Fortune and Moneyball.
Series one of The Finish Line was filmed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and had 25 episodes.
Opening up on her dream celebrity guest line-up, Sarah said it would consist of Hannah Waddingham, Peter Kay, Miriam Margolyes, Bradley Walsh and Shirlie Kemp.
