Sean Stewart Chooses Ohio State
He’ll get a real shot there but he still has a lot to learn.
Former Blue Devil Sean Stewart has made his decision and he’ll be a Buckeye next year.
A major factor in his recruitment was new health coach Jake Diebler. Diebler was an assistant under former head coach Chris Holtmann and he was the lead recruiter with Stewart.
Holtmann of course was fired this past season and Diebler was originally the interim coach. However, he did well enough to win the job outright so he’ll be Stewart’s new coach.
Stewart told the Columbus Dispatch that “[m]e and Diebler picked up our previous vibe from the first time recruiting me. He was the lead recruiter when I was in high school. We talked almost every day leading up to my decision day, so to have that call when he called me the first day when I entered the portal, it was exciting to talk to him again. He kept reiterating how crazy it was that this came full circle that he recruited me as an assistant coach and now he’s a head coach.
“It’s a lot of chemistry since the first day he started recruiting me.”
Stewart is a talented player who still struggled to carve out a role at Duke. We noticed several times during the season that his older teammates would sometimes physically move him to where he was supposed to be on the court.
His transfer reminds us a bit of Clifford Rosier, who started at UNC. When he told Dean Smith he wanted to transfer, Smith told him, “you know, Clifford, Louisville plays defense too.”
If he can figure those sorts of issues out, he’ll do fine. We wish him the best of luck with Ohio State.
