Prep track and field: Redwood’s Bayon wins two field events at MCALs
Redwood High’s Antonio Bayon claimed a pair of victories as the MCAL made the decision to move all the field event finals up to Thursday due to the inclement weather expected on Saturday morning.
Bayon won the pole vault with a personal best height of 14 feet, 8 inches. He also won the triple jump with another personal record distance of 43-03.
Redwood also secured wins in the boys discus (Holden Turner, 46-6.75), the girls high jump (Ruby Hauth, 5-0), the girls pole vault (Trinity Chancellor, 10-06), the girls long jump (Annalise Horn, 17-08), plus the girls triple jump (Rachael McAllister, 34-00).
Other winners on Thursday were San Marin’s Trenton Jepma (boys discus, 136-00) and Jack Golan (boys long jump, 21-02.5); Novato’s Audrey Kobayashi (girls discus, 93-10); Tam’s Ayla Koch-Bergen (girls shot put, 33-04.25); plus Marin Catholic’s Kyree Marshall (boys high jump, 5-10).
The 4×800 relays were also held on Thursday with Redwood win the boys race and Archie Williams winning the girls event. The Giants team was Jonah Momsen, Gabriel Cavanagh, Ethan Werner, and Calvin Tudor. The Peregrine Falcons had Alexandra Greenwald, Ani Stieg, Alyssa Silverstein, and Brooke Lee.
- San Rafael resident and Marin Waves standout Ellie McCuskey-Hay won two events and placed second in two others for St. Ignatius High at the West Catholic Athletic League championships on Friday. McCuskey-Hay, a sophomore, won both sprint events — the 100 in 11.89 seconds and the 200 in 25.02 — and finished second in the long jump (16-11). McCuskey-Hay was also on the second-place 4×100 relay team (49.65).
