'The best Mother's Day present': Murder victim's mother relieved after Joshua Willis conviction
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)-- Carla Dean, the mother of Ashley Metz, said the last eight years without her daughter have been hard, but when she heard the verdict of a jury finding her daughter's killer guilty, she said it's the best news she could have received.
"When I heard guilty on both charges, that was the best Mother's Day present I could ever have," Dean said.
Carla Dean, the mother of Ashley Metz said it's been eight years since the brutal murder of her daughter.
"This makes me feel so good. I've waited eight long years," Dean said.
Joshua Willis, convicted in 2016 murders of Ashley Metz and Brouklynn Hill was found guilty of 1st and 2nd degree murder. Dean said when the verdict came back as guilty, it was the best thing for her and her family.
"She's now resting," Dean said. "And we can now go on and he can go and get what he deserves."
Dean said it's been a long road, but now she can continue to heal as she feels vindicated and has received justice.
"Yes, we can move on," Dean said. "We can now have a life without having to worry about coming to the courtroom every so often to get justice. So we did get justice today."
Willis is scheduled to reappear in court on June 13 for automatic sentencing.
