Mayfield man sentenced to 100 years for child sex crimes
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Schenectady County District Attorney's Office announced that Joshua Hodgson, 43, of Mayfield, has been sentenced to 100 years to life in state prison in connection to a sex crime case involving a child. Hodgson was convicted of 20 felonies and three misdemeanors by a Schenectady County jury back in January.
Hodgson was found guilty of multiple counts of rape and sexual abuse against a 13-year-old girl. He was also found to be in possession of images depicting the sexual abuse of the minor.
The district attorney's office stated that Hodgson was a longtime friend of the child's father. Hodgson reportedly initiated the criminal sexual relationship with the girl in 2021 while being allowed to stay with the family in order to help him get back on his feet and find a job.
Judge Mark Caruso delivered the sentence after noting Hodgson to be "a persistent menace to society," describing the crimes as "horrific." According to the Schenectady District Attorney's Office, when given the chance to speak, Hodgson proclaimed himself to be "the victim" in the case, adding that he "had no remorse."
"Judge Caruso clearly felt that Mr. Hodgson needs to be removed from society for the rest of his life and given his career of crime, character and stated lack of remorse for his actions, it is hard to argue with his conclusion." said District Attorney Robert Carney.
