Local WWII veteran dies at 100
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A local World War II veteran, who was the last surviving member of Company B from Cohoes, has passed away at age 100. Wilfred Mailloux, better known as Spike, died peacefully Thursday morning at the Eddy Heritage House surrounded by his family.
Mailloux and his wife were featured on NEWS10 last July as they celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary. A hero of WWII, Mailloux served 5.5 years in the army before he was seriously wounded in the Battle of Saipan.
He will be laid to rest on Tuesday at St. Michael's Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, four children, and many grandchildren.
