Noel, Manzardo and Watson provide a spark in an otherwise uneventful day for the Guardians’ farm
Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Friday, May 3, 2024
Columbus Clippers 3, Toledo Mud Hens 7
Box Score · Clippers fall to 12-17
The Clippers were able to snatch three runs from Toledo, but it wasn’t enough as Hunter Stanley gave up 7 total runs (3 earned) to the Mud Hens offense.
Stanley’s final line: 5.0 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 1 HR
Jhonkensy Noel hit a solo shot, his 5th of the year, while Kyle Manzardo doubled and Micah Pries went 2-4 with two singles.
Wes Parsons and Randy Labaut were able to finish off the game unscathed, K’ing 3 total.
Akron RubberDucks 4, Richmond Flying Squirrels 3
Box Score · RubberDucks rise to 16-8
Kahlil Watson powered the Ducks forward with his 4th long ball of the year as Akron took Thursday’s game 4-3 against Richmond.
Yordys Valdes had a big night of his own, as he went 1-2 with 2 walks and 2 RBI. He turned a pivotal double play with a tie game in the 8th and then walked home the winning run in the bottom of the same inning.
Aaron Davenport was locked, striking out 6 and giving up 2 runs in 5.0 innings pitched. He gave up 3 hits and 2 walks in the process, and he continues his impressive start to the season.
The bullpen handled business as usual from there. Tyler Thornton gave up the only other earned run, but Davis Sharpe and Trey Benton picked him up by keeping runners off the bases and striking out 4.
Lake County Captains 0, Fort Wayne Tin Caps 3
Lake County Captains 1, Fort Wayne Tin Caps 3
Game 1 Box Score · Game 2 Box Score · Captains fall to 13-11
To put it simply, the bats were cold for Lake County on Thursday. Tyresse Turner and Maick Collado were the only ones to get on base in the first game, as both recorded singles in the 1st.
Carter Spivey had a decent start for the Captains, however. He only struck out two, but he gave up a total of 3 runs on 5 hits and 0 walks. Josh Wolf had the 7th where he would K one and allow no further damage.
For the nightcap, it was much of the same story for the Captains, but the starting 9 provided a little more fight than the previous game. Angel Zarate provided the only run of the game with a sac-fly, while also hitting a double later on in the game. Aside from that, however, the offense had many chances to score but came up with nothing to show for it. They left a total of 9 runners on base for the game.
Juan Zapata had a similar day to Spivey, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs in 4 innings, but also walking one in the process. Zane Morehouse finished the game off on the bump with 2 no-score innings of his own, K’ing 3 as well.
Lynchburg Hillcats 6, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 9
Box Score · Hillcats fall to 13-11
Juan Benjamin, Wuilfredo Antunez and Luis Durango led the charge for the Hillcats on Thursday. Antunez and Durango had 2 hits each, while Benjamin provided a pair of RBIs with a single. He also walked later on in the game.
In 5.1 IP, Yorman Gomez gave up a couple of homers and 4 total runs. He walked 4 and allowed 5 to hit safely while fanning 2. The Cats’ bullpen didn’t stand much of a better chance, giving up 5 runs on 3 hits and 5 walks.
