Newsletter | May 2024
AGM is over and I would like to thank you all for giving myself and your committee the vote of confidence to continue running this great Golf Club. Remember that together we are strong and divided we fail, so get behind your committee and come up with suggestions, solutions. If there is something that you are not happy with – let’s hear it from you direct.
There were some complaints at the AGM that you the Members were not informed enough.
This we will try and address in the coming months, but first I would like to hear from you, the Members, on what information you would like to see and to what detail you would like to see. We are business people and give of our time freely when you request details.
The Committee remains the same with the same portfolios.
We welcome Colin Jacobs back into the fold. He fills the position of Vice President. Members are encouraged to contact the relevant committee for any suggestions.

Our Course is in magnificent condition at the moment with thanks to the water that we have available to us. We now endeavor to concentrate on some of the bare patches on the fairways. The bushes that were cut back on the 6th and 12th are looking exceptionally good and have started taking shape. These can now be easily maintained going forward. What a magnificent view the Flamingo’s are putting on for us in the Lagoon. Great to have them back in such a grandeur numbers.
Mark Harcombe is well on his way with the extension of the Pump House. Once completed we will purchase our new Generator to operate the sprinkler system.
Congratulations to Cara Gorlei on winning her first Trophy at the Jabra Ladies Classic. Cara, we wish you all the best going forward. Jack Buchanan leaves in May to play tournaments in England then he is off to America to college. Jack, go well, play well and make us proud to be your Home Club.
Three of our Mid Amateur boys, Kyle, Gino and Ryan competed in the Silverlakes SA Mid Amateur competition. They made the 3rd round cut which was a great achievement. They were well looked after at this event by Conrad.
Something to think about when playing your game:
I wander lonely as a cloud that floats on high over vales & hills, when all at once I saw a crowd, a host of golden daffodils, beside the lake beneath the trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine, and twinkle on the milky way, they stretched in never ending line, along the margin of a bay. Ten thousand I saw at a glance, tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
Happy Golfing
Billy O’Brien

Lady Captain’s Corner
Dear Members
This marks me as the New Lady Captain for Milnerton Golf Club 2024. My name is Judy Teixeira, aka, the Twins Mother. Most of you know who I am and what I am, but for those who don’t …… the shortened version.
I have been a Full Member of Milnerton Golf Club for about 11/12 years. Encouraged by Casey to Join and later Megan joined. I own the Nail Salon “Nails of Note” of which I have had for 18 years. I manage a Rental Property and an Air BnB property, so along with Captaincy, this will surely keep me occupied.
I would like to introduce the rest of the Committee :
- Karien Van Rooyen – Vice Captain & Treasurer
- Lorette Hegie – Lady President
- Lesley MacFarlane – Honorary Secretary (who does an amazing job)
- Sylvia Crotz – Tuesday Games
- Denise Wiffler – Locker Room
The Ladies started the year off with quite a bang in numbers and we hope to sustain this through the year. We will endeavor to include a number of “Fun” games – April’s one being “Lone Ranger”. The committee encourage all ladies to join our Tuesday games and to the ladies from the past we would love to have you back. Any suggestions you may have, we sincerely encourage you to send us an email or WhatsApp message.
Our heartiest congratulations to Cara Gorlei on winning her first Title in the Jabra Ladies Classic. We wish you all the best Cara and may this be the beginning of plenty more wins for you. We had the privilege of Cara addressing our Ladies at the beginning of the month. Plenty of questions were posted to Cara, thank you, the Ladies enjoyed having you and then you went on to win the Classic!!
We welcome Rachel as a new Lady Member to Milnerton. Most know you already Rachel and look forward to lots of fun and games with you. We welcome Siphokazi September as well to our fold. We look forward to meeting you very soon. We have introduced Match Play back for our Ladies Div. Kyle so generously formulated it for us. The First round needs to be played by the end of May.
So Ladies book your game with your opponent soonest. Those away your opponents will automatically go through to round 2.
Tuesday 23 March we had our Annual Captain vs Vice Captain. Great day was had by all, with the Vice Captain team winning – congratulations !!
The Interclub is on 3 to 5 May. The Ladies representing Milnerton, we wish you well, safe travels, have fun, and bring the Trophy back with you.

Golf Course Report
Hi All Members,
Not much to report on our course, our greens are coming on nicely since hollowtyning, the course is looking green as it normally does with winter on its way. The pathways on the 2nd and 7th are almost complete. There have been a couple of hiccups but it’s being sorted.
The new part of the 2nd green is almost ready, looking forward to what it will play like. The only new work we will start this month is that we are going to level the 11th and 14 tees so you can look forward to playing these holes a lot shorter. Our surrounds of the greens are coming on very nicely and once again I ask all golf carts to please stick to the rough around our greens.
For all members I am open to any suggestions to improve our course or if you have noticed something that’s not right, please feel free to drop me a WhatsApp or call me. Together we can all make Milnerton the best course it can be.
Regards
Shaun Buchanan
