X-Files Fan Fest in Saratoga canceled
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The X-Files Preservation Collection and Collectibles museum in Saratoga announced the cancelation of their 2024 X-Files Fan Fest. In a post on social media, organizers said they made the difficult decision to call off what would have been the third annual event.
The festival, also known as the XFP Fan Fest, was scheduled for June 28 and 29 at the Saratoga Springs City Center. In a statement, the founders and operators of the X-Files Preservation Collection cited low ticket sales as the primary cause for the cancelation. Jim Thornton and Kelly Anthony theorized that inflated hotel prices nearby for track season discouraged people from traveling to the area.
"We have poured our hearts, time and finances into this event and were very excited to share with you all we had planned. Ticket sales, however, have not been adequate to make it reasonable for us to continue with the event. We need to act to protect the museum and its future," Thornton and Anthony said. "We believe that our current economy, as well as the sheer number of recent X-Files events in the last two years, along with the higher prices for hotels in the area due to the Belmont Stakes coming to Saratoga, have contributed to lower than expected ticket sales. We want you to know that we tried all we could to make this event happen and we are sorry for any inconvenience and/or disappointment."
Refunds for the festival are currently being processed through their original payment methods, according to XFP. Organizers say refunds should be completed between May 6 and May 30, and that anyone who does not receive their money back by May 30 should contact XFP at xfilespreservationcollection@gmail.com.
