Registered Oregon voters to see primary election ballots in their mailboxes
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — With Oregon’s registration deadline in the rearview, voters should expect election ballots in their mailboxes soon.
Tuesday was the state’s registration deadline for the primary election coming up on May 21. The Multnomah County Elections Office said the U.S. Postal Service began delivering ballots on Wednesday.
Across all Oregon counties, people who registered with a major political party should receive a ballot by May 9. If not, voters are encouraged to contact their local elections office.
The ballots are due by 8 p.m. on election night. They can be submitted to any elections office, or the official ballot drop site locations listed by the Oregon Secretary of State. Ballots postmarked by the election date will be counted.
Multnomah County also noted this year’s primary election ballot will look different for Portland voters.
“Candidate contests for City of Portland elected offices will not appear on the May 2024 ballot,” county officials said. “These contests will appear on the Nov. 5, 2024, ballot, which will also be the City's first use of ranked-choice voting.”
