EU contributes €15 million to combat climate change in Afghanistan
Rafaela Iodice, the European Union official in Afghanistan, says the EU has contributed 15 million euros to combat climate change and assist vulnerable women in Afghanistan.
She stated this on Thursday, May 2nd, in a message posted on her social media platform from X, mentioning that Afghanistan is the most vulnerable country to climate change.
According to Iodice, Peteris Ustubs, Head of Asia, Central Asia, Middle East, and Pacific Division of the European Union, signed the document for this aid during his trip to Afghanistan.
The EU official in Afghanistan emphasized that this aid will be utilized to combat climate change and natural disasters in the country.
The European Union had previously warned that the consequences of climate change in Afghanistan would increase poverty and the need for food.
It is noteworthy that Afghanistan is one of 19 countries vulnerable to climate change, according to reports.
It’s worth mentioning that devastating floods, rising temperatures, decreased precipitation, untimely rains, depletion of groundwater, and changes in humidity are among the major factors of climate change.
