Pakistan condemns terrorist attack in Afghanistan’s Herat
Pakistan strongly condemns the terrorist attack at a mosque in Herat, Afghanistan, expressing condolences to the Afghan people.
The Foreign Office asserts condemnation of terrorism in all forms, including attacks on places of worship. Thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families in this hour of grief, stated the Foreign Office.
“Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including despicable attacks on places of worship”, it said.
Gunman attacks a Shia mosque in western Afghanistan, Herat province, killing six, says a government spokesman.
According to Abdul Mateen Qani, Ministry of Interior Affairs spokesman, an armed individual shot civilians at a mosque in Andisheh town, Guzara district, Herat province, around 9 pm on Monday.
Local media reports indicate that a prayer leader, or Imam, was among those killed in the attack. The Iranian embassy in Kabul has condemned the incident.
On Tuesday, the ISIL (ISIS) armed group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attack in Herat emphasizes Afghanistan’s security challenges, and ISIS has been the main challenger to the Taliban government since they took power in Afghanistan.
Pakistan reaffirms its commitment to supporting Afghanistan in its fight against terrorism and calls for regional cooperation to address the root causes of extremism.
