‘OMG how did we not know?’ boot sale fans scream as shopper reveals ‘one of the best’ that’s open whatever the weather
CAR boot sales are a highly-anticipated, bargain-hunting day out for many people.
But, thanks to the good old British weather, the events are often rained off – spoiling the fun for both sellers and buyers.
Did you know there’s a boot sale held in the IKEA car park in Cardiff?[/caption]So it’s no wonder that a little-known boot sale, which takes place whatever the weather, is causing such a stir.
And as an added bonus, you can even pop upstairs for some meatballs afterwards.
That’s because the boot sale is actually held in the IKEA car park.
It’s On Cardiff editor Ian visited one of the recent sales in Cardiff, as he insisted it was “one of the best car boots out there”.
“Unlike standard car boot sales, which take place in fields, the IKEA car boot sale happens in their underground car park, which means it’s all weather,” he said in a video on the It’s On Cardiff TikTok page.
How to bag a boot sale bargain
Becky Chorlton is a boot sale pro, and regularly finds bargain pieces to sell on for a profit. Here's her top eight tips on how to scout out the hidden gems at your local car boot sale.
- Be organised – find out when and where your local boot sale is
- Bring loose change, and empty bags
- Be an early bird to get the best bargains
- Have an open mind, look out for unique pieces and don’t search for just one item
- Search high and low – have a rummage through boxes, cases and containers sellers have at their stalls
- Buy for all seasons – you’re more likely to find a summer bargain in the winter, and vice versa
- Check your purchases over – make sure you are happy with your item before you hand over any cash
- Barter to your heart’s content – it’s all part of the fun of being at a boot sale!
“So even if it rains, you can carry on selling your unwanted goods or hunting for that long lost treasure and remain dry.”
In addition, the car boot sale is completely FREE to trade – all you have to do is register on the website.
“Finally, once you’ve finished selling or hunting for a bargain you can head upstairs and get one last bargain with a 9 item Breakfast for £3.75 and a refill coffee for £1.50,” Ian added in the video caption.
The boot sale has been so popular in Cardiff that other dates have been added, and it will now be running on 18th, 19th and 26th May, from 10am to 2pm.
People took to the comments section of the TikTok video to admit they’d been completely unaware of the IKEA boot sale until now.
“Had no idea about this!?” one wrote.
“OMG how did I not know this?” another marvelled, tagging a pal and adding: “We need to go!”
“I live just off Ferry Road and I had no idea this was even a thing! ” a third commented.
“Definitely will be going to the next one!”
“Me who has a friend works in ikea never told me,” someone else fumed.
