World Bank to provide over 80% million in aid to Afghanistan
The World Bank has announced that it will provide $84 million to Afghanistan to combat the economic crisis and support livelihood projects. The assistance, as stated by the World Bank on Tuesday, will be channeled through the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF) and the International Development Association (IDA).
Additionally, Melinda Good, the World Bank’s official in Afghanistan, emphasized that these aids, allocated by the International Development Association over the past 18 months, have been directed based on a specific and effective framework in various areas, including employment generation, especially for women. She announced the continuation of these aids by the International Development Association in 26 provinces and six sectors.
According to reports, these projects have so far created short-term employment for over 776,000 Afghan families, benefiting approximately 5.4 million people.
The World Bank further adds that it has provided facilities for nearly 7.4 million people in Afghanistan in various areas such as roads, health centers, and access to drinking water.
According to the World Bank, during this period, cash and in-kind assistance has been provided to 92,200 vulnerable families in Afghanistan, including families headed by women.
Earlier, the World Bank had also announced $16 million to support small businesses, focusing on women and businesses led by women in Afghanistan.
