Mariners Game #30: 4/30/24, ATL at SEA
The Mariners take on the Braves in Game 2 of the series
After a thrilling walkoff last night, the Mariners will look to take the series from the team with the best winning percentage in baseball, which, you know, tough ask. The Mariners should have the advantage on the pitching side at least, sending Luis Castillo to the mound tonight to oppose journeyman reliever-turned-starter Reynaldo López. Even as a starter, López still pitches with largely a relief-typical profile of primarily fastball-slider, so the Mariners should have the opportunity to damage some fastballs if they can be disciplined enough to lay off the sliders.
Lineups:
With a righty on the mound for Atlanta, Seattle reverts to its righty lineup, with Josh Rojas returning to the leadoff spot, and Luke Raley holding down left field.

Today in Mariners history:
- 1986: The day after Roger Clemens set a major league record by striking out 20 Mariners, the Mariners strike out 16 more times against Red Sox pitching, setting a major league record of 36 strikeouts in two consecutive games. And they say the Mariners lack history.
- 2010: Cliff Lee makes his Mariner debut, striking out eight over seven scoreless innings. He is only the second pitcher in club history to throw at least 7.0 scoreless innings in his debut, and his eight strikeouts were third-most in a Seattle debut. [Laughs in Bryce Miller.]
- 2012: Miguel Olivo and Jesus Montero both hit home runs from the catcher position, marking the first time in club history both catchers homered in the same game.
- 2016: Wade Miley throws his first career complete game shutout against the Royals.
