Exhibit highlights work of students on autism spectrum
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Some local students put their artistic talents on display Tuesday. North Albany Middle School hosted an art and career gallery.
All of the students featured in the exhibit are on the autism spectrum. Educators said the exhibit was meant to give students with autism a chance to express themselves.
"Every person has something to offer," teacher Lois Gaines said. "Oftentimes, our students get overlooked because people don't understand them because they don't communicate the way you and I do, but they communicate through their art, they communicate through various ways."
The event fell on the last day of Autism Acceptance Month, but organizers said autism acceptance should be a year round goal.
