Pickup truck fire shuts down four lanes on westbound Bay Bridge
A pickup truck caught fire on the upper deck westbound direction of the Bay Bridge on Tuesday, momentarily causing four lanes to be blocked and bringing a Sig Alert for severe traffic from the California Highway Patrol.
The fire underneath the truck’s hood started about 10:45 a.m. According to reports confirmed by the CHP, the truck eventually became engulfed in flames.
The CHP said the driver got of the car got out and was not injured. No other injuries were reported.
At 11:20 a.m., all four lanes of westbound Interstate 80 on the bridge were closed, and the CHP issued the Sig Alert. By 11:35 a.m., all but the far two left lanes were open, but traffic alert still was in effect.
All lanes were open at noon.
Crews with the Oakland Fire Department put out the blaze, according to the CHP.
