Gardening tips 2024 — Transform your backyard with cheap DIY hack that’ll help your plants thrive – all you need is $7
YOU won’t need to remember to water your plants with this hack: this DIY does it for you.
Gardening expert Sara Tracy (@onagardenkick) demonstrated the process of crafting a “self-watering herb garden.”
The Instagrammer showcased how she utilized a modestly priced $7 terracotta pot to automate the watering process.
For her initial step, Sara filled a planting container with a mixture of potting soil, sand, and vermiculite. After blending the trio of components, she smoothed the soil’s surface, excavated a cavity, and positioned a small terracotta pot within it, subsequently surrounding it with additional potting mix.
To regulate water flow, she ingeniously employed a wine cork to partially seal the hole located at the smaller pot’s base. Moving forward, she proceeded to plant her assortment of herbs around the pot, which included rosemary, basil, parsley, oregano, and dill.
She filled the terracotta pot to the brim with water and let it slowly seep into the soil. Sara covered the terracotta pot with a matching saucer as she left the water to drain.
“Eventually roots will grow towards [the pot] and it will seep water to the plants through the terracotta,” she explained.
