I handmade a custom gift for my friend’s wedding – she showed me what she really thought years later when I got married
VEERING off a wedding registry is a bold move and it often doesn’t pay off.
One bride was left shocked by the present her friend gave her on her big day.
A Reddit user revealed the touching gift she gave her friend that didn’t seem to land well with the bride[/caption]Commenting under a viral post, Reddit user NotSlothBeard revealed the worst wedding gift she received.
First, the poster offered some background context to her friendship with the gift giver.
“When my friend got married, I was a very, very broke college student,” she explained.
The Redditor recalled opting for the handmade gift route given her financial struggles at the time.
“I gave them an embroidered floral picture in their wedding colors with a quote about love or something, and their wedding date,” she wrote.
The poster’s friend didn’t give her any reason to question the gift but over time the pair “grew apart.”
“I was working full time, still going to school, and active in a community group,” she explained.
However, she still invited her old friend to her own nuptials when the time came.
She revealed that her friend chose a similar style homemade gift for the big day.
“Her wedding gift to me was a decorative box with embroidery thread and loose beads,” she wrote.
When the bride opened the accompanying card, however, she was left shocked by the message inside.
“In the card, she wrote a snippy comment about how I don’t have time for her anymore now that I have a man of my own,” she explained.
While the original poster didn’t elaborate any further, Reddit users were less than impressed by the situation.
They shared their thoughts on the passive-aggressive card in a comment thread.
CONFUSION
“Damn. I really thought this one was going to have a sweet ending where she wrote a card saying your gift meant a lot to her,” wrote one reader.
“I think I understand why you let that friendship go,” said another person.
“Wow! Now I’m worried. I just spent 80-plus hours making a cross stitch with names and the date, and had it custom framed as a wedding gift for my manager,” commented a third Redditor.
Some people praised the thoughtfulness behind the handmade present.
“Your gift is wonderful because it was made by you. I would have loved what you made, and it’s better than another gravy boat,” pointed out another reader.
“I would love that and hang it proudly. Gifts made with love are always the best,” said one person.
