Albany man arrested on gun charge after traffic stop
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man was arrested following a traffic stop on multiple weapons charges, as well as resisting arrest. Iziah Smith, 29, faces several charges.
On Monday, around 5:35 p.m., deputies from the Albany County Sheriff's Office pulled Smith over and said he had a fraudulent inspection sticker. Deputies also say through an investigation, they found Smith had a loaded Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Deputies say Smith tried to resist arrest by physically fighting them and tried to flee. Law enforcement says Smith did not have the right to possess firearms as he is a convicted felon.
Charges:
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Obstructing governmental administration
- Resisting arrest
- Multiple traffic violations
Smith was held at the Albany County Correctional Facility as a pre-arraigned detainee. He will be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court on Tuesday.
