China donates $100,000 to flood victims in Afghanistan
The Chinese Red Cross donated $100,000 to assist recent flood victims in the country.
The Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan recently announced that this cash donation has been allocated to the victims of recent earthquakes.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Jaoxing, China’s envoy to Afghanistan, expressed China’s desire to develop relations with Afghanistan in political, economic, and cultural fields during a recent meeting with Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Taliban’s Deputy Administrative Affairs.
This comes as several provinces of the country have experienced heavy rainfall, storms, floods, and lightning strikes in recent days, resulting in over a hundred fatalities and numerous injuries.
China’s assistance announcement coincides with a report from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stating that Afghanistan continues to face a complex humanitarian crisis, including the effects of long-term war, poverty, food insecurity, natural disasters, and climate change.
OCHA recently declared that Afghanistan’s humanitarian needs and response plan for 2024 are facing a severe financial gap.
Afghanistan is highly susceptible to various natural disasters, including floods, landslides, earthquakes, and more. These events significantly challenge the country’s infrastructure, economy, and population.
The country’s vulnerability to such calamities underscores the importance of robust disaster preparedness and response mechanisms to mitigate their impact and safeguard the well-being of its people.
