Depop customer mortified after their new boots arrived stuffed with a ‘smelly’, grim surprise inside
BUYING second-hand goods can oftentimes be hit or miss – and unfortunately for one Depop shopper, it was the latter.
The fashionista had spotted a pair of brown boots on the popular platform and thinking they were a great bargain, the shopper ordered the items – but little did the person know the parcel would arrive with a ”smelly”, grim surprise inside.
the heated exchange between the buyer and seller, which was shared on Instagram[/caption] The alleged additional items received by the buyer[/caption]Upon opening the package, the buyer found that the seller had allegedly also chucked in knickers and other ”items”, The Mirror reported.
The brown boots arrived stuffed with a red thong and were accompanied with a bra, a sock, and a yellow handwritten post-it note reading “Enjoy”.
However, after contacting the person, to complain about the “weird” and gross items, as well as about the state of the boots, which were ”flaking”, the Depop seller was quick to deny the claims.
Sharing the interaction on DM Drama on Instagram, the second-hand fashion lover said: “There was used lingerie stuffed into the boots that really smell.
”This is just really unacceptable and weird. The boots are also not brown and are not in perfect condition.
”The leather is flaking off everywhere. Please can you issue me a refund for these reasons.”
Despite the claims, the seller insisted that nothing had been put inside the boots, which, according to them, were also ”in perfect condition”.
The customer then added that the knickers they’d allegedly found were from M&S – but the seller once again refuted the ”absurd” allegation.
“Well explain how they got in there then? Was it the postman?” the Depop fan wondered.
Despite the claims, the seller insisted that the customer was simply “trying to get a refund” since they ”didn’t like the boots”.
The funny yet disgusting exchange was posted on social media, where it took the internet by storm, racking up over 3,200 likes and dozens of comments.
One person was baffled: “Why would anyone buy anything from these sites, ffs?!
”If you’re anxious to buy other people’s garbage, go to a thrift shop.”
“Why’s she complaining… that’s a bonus,” another user joked.
Someone else added: “What the flip.”
“EW,” a fourth chimed in.
”No pic of the boots I see. I’m on sellers side, moving on,” reckoned an Instagram user.
What is Depop and how does it work?
Depop is a global marketplace where sellers can flog pre-loved goods and trendy fashionistas can find the perfect fits for their style, typically cheaper than on the high street.
The way the app works is simple – once you sign up to use the platform, you can start uploading items to your shop.
Meanwhile, buyers can browse Depop and search for specific items, using key words.
The exchange of buying and selling happens within the app – those keen to snap up your items can drop you a message even before making a purchase – however, this isn’t necessary to make a purchase.
When a buyer has bought the pre-loved goods, the seller then receives payment and must ship the item to their buyer.
