Woman who lost son to host grief retreat to help others find healing and hope
SULPHUR, Okla. (KFOR) - Losing a loved one is, without a doubt, one of the hardest trials of life. An Oklahoma woman who lost her young son is now turning her heartbreak into hope for others.
Amelia Harrison has endured the worst kind of loss for any parent. On January 17, 2021, Amelia's life changed forever when her son, Liam, drowned while on vacation in Colorado.
Liam would have celebrated his sixth birthday the following month.
News 4 first introduced you to Amelia in March of 2024, when she was named a finalist for our 2024 Remarkable Women of Oklahoma campaign.
Through her grief, Amelia created Liam's Light Foundation, with the goal of offering support and guidance to those grieving.
Additionally, Amelia has written a guide book, "Just Show Up," detailing how to help others who are suffering an immediate loss.
Amelia is also about to host her second grief retreat, "Hope in the Healing," which will take place in Sulphur, June 20th through June 23rd. To register for the retreat or to become a sponsor, click here.
Amelia is married to her husband, Tyler, with whom she shares Liam's two younger brothers, Lane and Landry.
Even though Liam is no longer with his family, Amelia will never stop telling anyone who asks that she is a mother of three.
Amelia says the crushing loss her family has endured will never go away, but she wants others to know that things do get easier.
