I’m a make-up artist & here’s 5 common beauty mistakes that are making you look OLDER – your brows are key for a start

A MAKE-UP pro has revealed the five common beauty mistakes that many people make, which are making you look older.

So if you want to look youthful, regardless of your age, you’ve come to the right place.

From your concealer placement to a blusher blunder, you’ll need to listen up if you’re on a hunt to look younger than you actually are.[/caption]

Mayra Lopez, a make-up artist, has taken to social media to share the beauty tricks she swears by, leaving many open-mouthed.

Not only did Mayra express how concealer and eyeliner placement can age you, but she also revealed the eyeshadow and contour mistakes that are adding years onto your appearance.

Posting online, Mayra shared her educational clip with the caption ‘These little mistakes will make the biggest difference in your makeup game!

‘I love helping women of all ages feel confident and beautiful in their own skin!’ 

She then revealed her tips for those that are “35 and beyond” and are wanting to look younger.

Mayra claimed that to do her make-up, she used the same products on each side of her face – but there was a clear difference. 

Whilst one side looked lifted, youthful and snatched, the other side demonstrated how you could be using make-up incorrectly. 

EYEBROWS

If you are someone who uses eyebrow pencil to fill in your eyebrows, you’ll need to listen up, as Mayra advised: “Instead of just filling them in and dropping them down, you actually want to lift them up.”

She recommended beauty fans to brush up their eyebrow hairs before filling them in, to provide an “automatic lift”.

For a youthful look, Mayra explained the importance of filling them in “all the way to the outer corner of your eye”. 

EYELINER 

For those that can’t get enough of an eyeliner flick, you’ll need to pay attention.

The make-up pro added: “Instead of applying your eyeliner just to the corner and bringing it down, make sure you create a small baby wing for a lift.”

EYESHADOW

Where eyeshadow is concerned, Mayra continued: “If you have mature skin, you can still wear shimmers – just avoid wearing them on the brow bone, because if you have a hooded eye, this is actually going to make your hooded eye look more hooded.”

Instead, if you want to highlight your brow bone, Mayra advised using a light, matte shade.

CONCEALER

If you use concealer to cover up your dark under eyes, Mayra shared: “When you apply your concealer all the way down, you get that patchy, greasy look – instead use it just in the inner and outer corner.”

Mayra also explained that colour correcting first can avoid any nasty concealer mishaps.

CONTOUR AND BLUSH

Finally, when it comes to using contour and blusher, Mayra explained: “If you apply your contour too low, it’s actually dropping your face down.”

Instead, she urged beauty fans to apply contour “above the hollow area of your bone”.

Where blusher is concerned, Mayra stressed the importance of applying it above your contour, not to the apples of your cheeks. 

SOCIAL MEDIA USERS REACT

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @the.mayra.lopez, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed a whopping 447,000 views. 

Social media users were thankful for Mayra’s advice and many took to the comments to express this.

Tips to age well

There are a number of habits you can take up to care for your health and wellbeing as you age.

Age UK shared the following tips:

  • Do things that you enjoy everyday – whether that’s cooking, seeing friends or enjoying a good book
  • Stay hydrated – drink six to eight cups of water a day
  • Eat plenty of fruit and veggies to lower your risk of heart disease and certain cancers, have beans, pulses, fish, eggs and meat to repair your body after injury, starchy carbs for energy dairy to help keep bones strong
  • Manage long-term health conditions to prevent them progressing or having a greater impact on your health
  • Quit smoking and reduce alcohol intake to no more than 14 units a week
  • Make mental health a priority and get treatment for it, as it can also impact physical health
  • Make sure you’re getting quality sleep
  • Keep socialising – and call a friend or loved one if you can’t make it out the house
  • Be physically active to lower the risk of depression and dementiaheart diseasestrokeParkinson’s and some cancers
