I’m 45 & my $4 ‘miracle’ buy from Walmart keeps my face hydrated in the desert, old ladies who use it have the best skin
A BEAUTY guru has sparked a rush to buy a bargain-friendly face cream that keeps skin hydrated even in the desert heat.
She began to use the product after an elderly woman with “beautiful” skin convinced her to try it.
The beauty enthusiast took to Reddit’s 30 Plus Skincare forum writing under the handle u/gymmama.
She shared a photo of an affordable “miracle” product that improved her skin after just one use.
“I met a lady recently in her 70s with very beautiful skin!” the woman wrote.
“She said she uses this daily and brought me a sample of it yesterday.
“I used it last night as a first step to remove my makeup and decided I liked the texture enough to try sleeping in it for the night.
“I am 45 and live in the desert and keeping my skin hydrated is a daily battle.
“Well, holy smokes! I woke up this morning and my face was so soft and felt amazing!
“I usually use SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Cream or Skin Fix Lipid Cream.
“And here this $4 Walmart cream really impressed me.
“Yes it’s scented and nope, I don’t know what’s all in it….but if it makes my skin beautiful and hydrated I’m going to use it!”
She shared a photo of Jergens All Purpose Face Cream Moisturizer Lotion, which costs $4.17 at Walmart.
A flood of responses to the post said they’ve also met people who swear by the skincare product.
“My grandma uses it and OMG she’s 80, but you’d bet she just turned like 60,” one person commented. “Her skin is beautiful.”
“My grandma has used this all her life, she used to rub it on mine and cousin’s face when we were little,” another said.
“She looks about 10 years younger than she is. People would always think she’s our mom.”
“Honestly this stuff and Ponds are OG and still excellent,” a third wrote.
“I use Ponds as a makeup remover, oil cleanser as part of a double cleansing method, and sometimes as a mask.
“I could imagine using it as a nighttime moisturizer, too. They’re not that dissimilar.
“Sometimes things are classics for a reason!”
Anti-aging tips and 'superstar' products
Dr. Anatalia Moore is a GP and skin specialist with over 11 years of clinical experience.
She told The U.S. Sun that her goal is to equip patients with the knowledge they need to take control of their skin journey.
She said the fundamental basics of a beauty routine are the same for all ages — it should include an effective cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF.
“Moisturizers are my superstar, even over products containing active ingredients,” she said.
“Finding a well-balanced moisturizer that provides the right kind of hydration, replaces natural oils, and seals them in, literally stabilizes your skin.
“This in itself quickly can soften the appearance of fine lines and texture, as often these are worsened by dehydration.
“It also allows the skin to function as it should.
“It then can heal faster, which, among many things, can lead to fewer lines and wrinkles, less flares of dermatitis and rosacea, and shorter-lived, milder breakouts.”
Dr. Moore’s skincare staples:
- Obagi Hydrate and Hydrate Lux moisturizer, $78
- Adequate sleep
- Balanced diet
- Reducing stress
Jergens All Purpose Face Cream Moisturizer Lotion has a 4.5-star rating on Walmart.
According to the manufacturer, a “generous” amount should be applied to the face and throat to smooth dry skin and create a “healthy-looking glow.”
A tissue can be used to remove excess cream from the skin or it can be kept on overnight.
One customer review gushed about loving the feel of the “thick” formula on their face, while others raved that it helps to defy the signs of aging.
The moisturizing cream is best suited to people who have dry skin.
