Clifton Park hosts Spring Shredding Day
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Clifton Park residents with paper to shred are finally getting their chance. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, there's a complimentary event for shredding sensitive documents at the Clifton Park Center.
Residents can head down to the location near the DMV and Bosovs to get rid of their bills or files with personally identifiable information. Shredding services at the event will make short work of paper, but binders, plastic carriers, folder, and metal spiral notebooks will be turned away.
Shredding is free and event organizers are not requiring registration. They're want participants to bring a nonperishable food item to donate to families and people experiencing hunger.
"Clifton Park has been offering this free service, in partnership with 3N Document Destruction, for sixteen years, said Town Supervisor Phil Barrett. We appreciate the generosity of our volunteers and people who participate in the program for your donation of time and non-perishable food items in support of our community."
Town volunteers will be there to help organize traffic. Households are limited to four bags or boxes of papers. Each year since 2008, similar shredding bring in about 1.25 tons of food for the Jonesville Food Pantry per year.
