A DERMATOLOGIST, has revealed four things that she would never do to her hair, and said that a popular hairstyle could lead to breakage and hair loss.
Dr Raj Arora, shared her tips via a video posted to her TikTok channel, which she often uses to share skin and hair care tips and tricks.
The doctor revealed that the first thing she would never do is bleach her hair, or have balayage.
She said: “This can cause extreme hair breakage and can also result in really dry hair.”
Dr Raj said that it can be very hard to repair hair that has been bleached, as the hair shaft becomes really dry, which can also lead to hair loss.
She admitted that in the past, she had bleached her hair, but said that she has now learnt that this is not the way to go, and now has much healthier long locks.
The second thing that Dr Raj does not recommend doing to your hair is getting hair extensions.
Again, the doctor admitted that she has had hair extensions in the past, but noticed that after she removed them, she had a lot of hair loss, and her hair was a lot thinner.
She said: “For me, hair extensions are a no no. They pull on your scalp, they cause breakage and they can lead to hair loss which is difficult to grow back.
Dr Raj’s third tip, is to avoid tight hairstyles and ponytails.
The doctor, who was sporting the popular hairstyle in the video herself, said that you should only wear your hair like this once every two weeks, and should wear a hair elastic that is going to cause less breakage.
Showing the back of her head to the camera, Dr Raj revealed that she had a soft, silk hair band in her hair.
She said: “Tight ponytails, hair braiding and pulling the hair back can cause traction alopecia and this can result in hair loss, especially around the face.”
Dr Raj’s final tip, is to not have a Brazilian Blowout, which is a type of hair straightening treatment that uses keratin to straighten and smooth out your hair.
She said: “Research has shown that Brazilian Blowouts contain a chemical called formaldehyde and this can cause cancer”.
Dr Raj’s video, which was posted under the username @drrajarora, has gone viral, racking up over 600,000 views on the video sharing platform.
TikTok users raced to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts on the doctor’s tips.
One person said: “After years of Brazilian keratin treatments I noticed that I lost so much hair.
“I really want to quit but it’s hard when frizz comes back”.
Another person said: “I had hair extensions and its ruined my hair”.
A third person said: “Hair extensions really thinned my hair as well.
“The bottom half especially”.
A fourth added: “This is so true, my hair is bleached right now and it’s so thin.”
