Clearing unexploded ordnance from Gaza rubble to take 14 years: UN Official
The head of the United Nations Mine Action Service in Iraq stated that Israel’s attacks in Gaza have created 37 million tons of rubble, filled with unexploded bombs.
Pehr Lodhammar mentioned that 65% of the destroyed buildings in Gaza were residential, and clearing the rubble will take about 14 years.
Large parts of the Gaza Strip have been turned into ruins as a result of Israel’s attacks.
The UN official stated that about ten percent of the fired bullets remain unexploded and need to be cleared by demining teams.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has escalated tensions in the region, leading to deadly exchanges of airstrikes and rocket attacks.
The violence has resulted in civilian casualties on both sides and raised international concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, from October 7th until now, over 34,000 people have been killed in Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
