I’m a gypsy & yes I don’t eat off of my posh plates – here’s the real reason why my home is covered in fancy decorations
A GYPSY woman has proudly showed off the stunning Crown Derby items she has around her home.
From pretty plates to cute cups and saucers, Suzy, a traveller who is known online as ‘Cuzin Suzy’, revealed the real reason why she would never eat off of her posh plates.
Posting on social media, in response to a comment that read “Are they decorations or do you buy them to eat off of?”, Suzy said: “The Crown Derby is not to eat off of, that is literally just to look nice.”
Crown Derby is one of the oldest porcelain manufacturers in the UK, producing high-quality bone china tableware and ornamental items since approximately 1750.
Suzy then explained that her stunning Crown Derby display in her kitchen, which contains plates wrapped in plastic, cups and saucers, jugs and more, was given to her by her mother.
She shared that it is “not to be touched” as if anything ever happens to her mum, she will still have it on display.
But not only is the Crown Derby displayed to add style to Suzy’s home, but it’s also collected to eventually be passed on to her daughter – a tradition that we’ve seen other travellers adopt too.
Suzy confirmed: “I am gonna add bits to it because eventually it’s gonna be my daughter’s – so it is just to look nice on the tables.”
But it’s not just Suzy’s kitchen that has an impressive Crown Derby display.
In Suzy’s short video, we then saw her show off her plate display in her living room, she explained: “None of that gets used – I know they’re plates and people are gonna say, ‘why’d you buy plates if you’re not gonna eat off of them?’
“People do. I know people who drink and eat off of Crown Derby, but I can’t afford to break any of it, because eventually, when my daughter gets older, it’s all gonna be for her.”
That’s what we do. We collect things to pass on

Suzy shared that if and when her daughter gets married, that is when she will be gifted her huge collection of Crown Derby.
She added: “That’s what we do. We collect things to pass on.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @cuzinsuzyofficial1, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 29,500 views.
Differences between a gypsy and a traveller
Typically, Gypsies is a term used to describe Romani people, who migrated to Europe from India.
Meanwhile, traveller refers to a group of people who usually have either Irish, Scottish or English heritage.
While many English gypsy girls are allowed to drink alcohol and go on holiday with their friends before they get married, many Irish traveller girls are not allowed to do this.
Generally, both gypsies and travellers will share the same morals.
Social media users were impressed with Suzy’s tradition and many took to the comments to praise her ‘beautiful’ collection of plates and ornaments.
One person said: “Love that tradition of passing things down!”
I love how it has memories and is then passed down again

Another added: “That’s really lovely. Your daughter will appreciate them.”
A third commented: “Beautiful sets…I love how it has memories and is then passed down again.”
Meanwhile, someone else expressed: “My Nan had plates and cups that wouldn’t be used. Those Crown Derby ones look amazing.”
