Columbia Co. teen arrested for school threat
NEW LEBANON, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Columbia County Sheriff's Office arrested a teen who they say made terroristic threats on Tuesday against the New Lebanon School District. Police said the 14-year-old would be charged with a D-class felony if tried as an adult.
The elementary and high school initiated their lockout protocols at 8:13 a.m. on Tuesday. Police found the source of the emailed threat alongside the New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit, finding there was no credible threat to the district.
The teen acted alone, according to police. Sheriff Donald Krapf said that when they investigate threats, they collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to make sure the community stays safe. "No one should feel afraid to attend school or work, or worry about the safety of their children," he said.
