Chrissy Teigen Passes Down ‘Beautiful’ Childhood Tradition to Daughter Luna: ‘My Cup Is Filled’
Chrissy Teigen is giving back, and she’s bringing her 8-year-old daughter Luna with her! The Cravings author revealed one of the “beautiful” childhood traditions that she is passing on and shared the most heartfelt photos from the experience.
“At the age of 84, my dad has officially become part of the assisted living community!” Teigen wrote on Instagram on Thursday. “It is so wonderful to have him just minutes away from us now, seeing him so happy and thriving.” So sweet! And because of this new transition, Teigen brought Luna and her Girl Scouts troop over to visit seniors at the facility.
“Yesterday our Girl Scouts went over to serve pigs in a blanket (national food holidays are my kryptonite!) and make friendship bracelets with all the incredibly sweet residents,” she continued. “I also got to teach them the insanely important life skill of making the best ranch dressing — hidden valley BUTTERMILK ranch, the buttermilk packet is crucial) (probably the first ranch dressing badge in Girl Scouts?).”
In the first photo, Luna is dressed up with her brown Girl Scout sash across her shoulder as she helps another girl hold a tray of appetizers to two elderly women at a table. They are surrounded by all the supplies to make friendship bracelets (Taylor Swift would be so proud!). Teigen also shared videos of the girls making ranch dressing, with herself as the coach of course.
Even little Esti, 15 months, got to (*ahem*) tag along! She wore a pretty flower dress with white sandals and a white bow as she sat on the floor of the assisted living community and ate a snack, while Luna and another Girl Scout tickled her.
The Chrissy & Dave Dine Out star explained that this visit was inspired by her own favorite childhood memories. “If you are able, volunteering at a retirement home, nursing home or assisted living community can be such a fulfilling and beautiful experience,” Teigen said. “My mom has been taking my sister and I since we were little, and now it’s just so special to get to go and see pops too. I try to go as often as possible, and my cup is filled every time. They also might have the best fluffy meatloaf in the game. ????????????”
“I love that you do this sooo much!” one person commented. “As my parents have aged I’ve seen how important it is for the community to be involved and visit the assisted living communities!!! Thank you for shining light on this!! I also agree … I didn’t know how fulfilling it would be!!! Loveeeee it!!!”
“This brings me so much joy and gives me ideas what we can do with our girl scout troop,” someone else wrote. Another commented, “This is absolutely the cutest, sweetest thing ever! I LOOOOOVE volunteering at assisted living centers/nursing homes! Elderly people are the absolute cutest ❤️❤️❤️❤️ So sweet of you to bring Luna & co to continue the tradition!!!!” We totally agree!
Teigen shares daughters Luna and Esti and sons Miles, 5, and Wren, 9 months, with husband John Legend. Her and Legend are big believers in giving back, which is why they took their eldest children to volunteer at their local Ronald McDonald House Charities in November.
At the time, the “All of Me” singer told PEOPLE about the day, “This was our kids’ first time at the Ronald McDonald House. We made our mochi pancakes, one of Chrissy’s recipes. And a lot of the kids that were there, some were patients, some were siblings of patients but our kids bonded with all of them quickly. They were playing basketball with them, having a good time. I enjoyed watching them.”
“We try to teach them that it’s important to give back and to help other people,” the EGOT winner continued. “They’ve gone with us to help feed people who are hungry, they’ve gone to homeless shelters with us. We try to teach them to be appreciative of what they have and also know that there are a lot of people that don’t have the privileges that they do, so we should do what we can to help them.”
