I went off my date when he arrived in running gear -he was a Spandex dad & that wasn’t the worst bit says Katherine Ryan
KATHERINE RYAN has revealed that she once went off a date after he turned up in running gear – but added that this wasn’t even the worst part.
The Canadian comedian, shared details of her dating escapade on her podcast Telling Everybody Everything.
Katherine, 40, shared that the Spandex wearing man first messaged her on Facebook, which she described as the “original dating app“.
She said that the man told her that they were friends on Facebook because he used to work for a production company that Katherine had worked with.
The mum of three, joked that at the time she wanted to date ‘muggles’ (meaning people that aren’t famous rather than non-wizards) so she agreed to go for a drink with him.
“I never really wanted to but I was trying to be part of the dating culture”, she said.
Katherine said she brought her friend and her eldest daughter Violet, 14 along to the coffee shop where the pair had agreed to meet, to make it clear that the occasion was “absolutely not a date”.
However, things took a turn for the worst when the man turned up in head to toe running gear.
Katherine said: “I just thought ‘no’.
“Because you know by now that he’s a ‘Spandex dad’, and he bikes in groups of 16”.
The comedian revealed that nothing had ever happened between the two, and she thought that that was the end of that, until a friend showed her that the man had a podcast.
In the podcast, Katherine’s date had insinuated that the pair had had a proper relationship, and been physical together.
She said: “He was a wrong’un. He used by full name and he really alluded to the fact that we’d had an actual relationship.
“I never kissed this man, I was never even in a room alone with this man and he let all of the other guys laugh and insinuate that we had had a physical relationship.
“We did not”.
Katherine joked that she would reveal the name of the man on her podcast, but she can’t remember his name.
The 8 Out Of 10 cats star is now happily married to Bobby Koostra, who she entered a civil partnership with in Denmark in 2019.
The pair were childhood sweethearts, and began dating again after Katherine returned to her hometown, whilst filming an episode of Who Do You Think You Are?
Katherine and Bobby welcomed a son named Fred in 2021, and a daughter named Fenna in 2022.
Her eldest daughter Violet is from a previous relationship.
