Officials looking into possible criminal wrongdoing in fatal TX helicopter crash
TEXAS (NEWS10) -- Officials in Texas are investigating whether there was any criminal wrongdoing in a helicopter crash that killed two New York Army National Guard members from the Capital Region. ABC News learned about the probe being conducted by the Starr County Sheriff's Office.
The agency said it began looking into the crash immediately after it happened. It is separate from a safety investigation that is also underway.
The crash took place on March 8 on the U.S.-Mexico border. Chief Warrant Officers Casey Frankoski, of Rensselaer, and John Grassia, of Schenectady, were killed in the crash. Border Patrol Agent Christopher Luna was also killed. Aircraft Crew Chief Jacob Pratt suffered serious injuries and is still receiving medical care in Texas.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
