Taliban detains 6 Iranian border guards in Western Afghanistan
According to a report the Taliban have detained six Iranian border guards after they entered Afghan territory in the Farah province.
The Iranian border guards, claiming to have mistakenly entered Afghanistan, are now under the custody of Taliban intelligence.
The report said that a Taliban letter addressed to Hafiz Elias, the head of the military commission in Kandahar, states that these six Iranian border guards were arrested for entering Afghan soil.
Initial investigations indicate that these Iranian soldiers told the Taliban they had mistakenly crossed into Afghanistan. However, Taliban officials wrote in the letter to the Kandahar military commission that based on information, Iran intends to carry out operations against the “Baloch Mujahideen” in Afghanistan without coordination with the Taliban government.
The letter also states that the Strategic Intelligence Directorate of the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense is aware of this matter.
According to sources, Iranian officials are currently in talks with the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense for the release of the border guards.
Neither Iran nor the Taliban has officially commented on the matter so far.
