Match Preview: Arbroath vs Queen’s Park
Queen’s Park’s last away game in The Championship this season comes at Arbroath this weekend with The Spiders out to pick up three crucial points that could lift the team higher than ninth place.
The Red Lichties were Queen’s first home opponents in the league this season with the game played at The city Stadium back in early August. The three points stayed in Glasgow thanks to Ruari Paton’s late winner after Barry Hepburn’s first half opener was cancelled out by Leighton McIntosh.
The clubs took advantage of a free weekend seven days later, when Viaplay Cup Ties were being played, to meet again on league duty with Queen’s coming out on top again 1-0 with Paton again netting the winner late on.
Six months passed, and new Head Coaches were in place for both teams, when the clubs met again on a memorable night for Queen’s Park at Hampden. A double for Paton sandwiched over a goal from Cillian Sheridan had the hosts firmly in control at the break with Dom Thomas, Liam McLeish and Stuart McKinstry finding the net in the second 45 minutes.
Whether it is 2-1, 1-0 or 6-0 a win for Queen’s Park would be very welcome!

The cinch Championship so far:
The game between Arbroath and Queen’s Park is a match between the bottom two in the Championship with two games to go. The Gayfield side cannot improve their position, and will play in League 1 next season, however six points from their final two games could change the outlook for the visitors.
Finishing at the foot of the table was far from the minds of the supporters of both clubs who attended what was the second and third games of this season back in August. The 1-0 away win at Gayfield made it three wins from three for Queen’s Park with Arbroath responding to their successive defeats by winning their next four Championship games.
Unfortunately for The Spiders their win in Angus was their last three-point haul until January 5 with Arbroath’s season taking a turn down the way after their four-game success with only one league success seen between September 23 and March 1.
That maroon success was a high-profile one as they came back from two goals down to defeat a title-chasing Raith Rovers 3-2 at home and that game will no doubt act as a warning to Callum Davidson and his players.
Another warning for Queen’s Park is that in their last six games there has only been one goal between Arbroath and their opponents.
