Jet2 launches flights and holidays to lesser-visited European hotspot for the first time in 15 years
THE country’s largest tour operator is launching flights to a lesser-visited holiday destination in Europe.
Jet2 has confirmed that it will be relaunching flights and holidays to Bergen – 15 years after they were scrapped.
New flights will operate between the UK and Bergen[/caption]According to Travel Weekly, flights will begin operating from Manchester Airport and Newcastle International Airport from today (Thursday, April 25).
Twice weekly flights will operate from Manchester Airport to Bergen.
The flights will operate every Monday and Thursday, making for an ideal long weekend.
Flights will depart from Manchester Airport at 8.55am before arriving in Bergen at 11.30am local time.
Return flights back to Manchester will then depart at 12.20pm, landing in the UK at 1.05pm.
Sun Online Travel have found return fares from £71 per person.
Meanwhile, Jet2 flights from Newcastle International Airport to Bergen will depart at 8.35am, arriving in Norway at 11.30am.
Return flights will leave Bergen Airport at 11.50am, landing back in Newcastle at 12.25pm local time, with return fares costing £90 per person.
The route will also begin operating from Leeds Bradford Airport and Birmingham International Airport in May.
Flights from Birmingham International Airport are a little pricier, with one-way fares starting from £118 in May.
The new route, and package holidays, are part of Jet2’s “Discover More” offering, which aims to cater to holidaymakers with a “sense of adventure”.
Other destinations in the range include Croatian cruises, Iceland and Christmas Market breaks.
Located in southwest Norway, Bergen is often described as being the gateway to the Norwegian Fjords.
There are more than 1,000 Fjords in Norway, meaning there’s plenty to keep holidaymakers entertained.
From hiking across glaciers, to admiring waterfalls, and exploring ancient viking settlements, there’s something for everyone.
There are also attractions to visit in Bergen, including Bryggen – the city’s historic harbour district that’s been named a World Heritage Site.
Bergen also has a range of museums like the Hanseatic Museum and the Bryggens Museum, which both explore the city’s history.
Jet2 boss Steve Heapy said: “We are delighted to see our new programme of flights and city breaks to Bergen start operating from Manchester Airport and Newcastle International Airport.
“We also look forward to seeing our first flights depart from Leeds Bradford airport and Birmingham airport in the coming weeks.
“The addition of flights and packages to this jaw-dropping destination for spring ’24 gives customers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the beauty of the fjords.
“Bergen is a stunning and vibrant city with something around every corner, and we expect this new programme to be extremely popular.”
