The first time Jokic challenged Davis tonight resulted in Davis blocking Jokic.
Here’s what Jokic did in Game 1:
Vs Anthony Davis: 2 of 7 FG’s, 1 of 2 3’s, 5 points, 2 assists
Rui Hachimura: 8 of 10 FG’s, 16 points, 2 assists
LeBron James: 6 of 7 FG’s, 12 points – 10:27 PM

Another strong start for the Lakers in Game 2 vs. the Nuggets, with LAL leading 15-9 midway through the 1Q after LeBron James’ hit ahead pass to Anthony Davis for a dunk, with DEN calling a timeout. – 10:23 PM

A second straight strong start for the Lakers here, as they go up 15-9 into the first time out, punctuated by a beautifully quick pass from LeBron to AD in transition for a dunk.
LeBron also had an and-1, plus a ridiculous block of Jamal Murray at the rim on the defensive end. – 10:21 PM
Tony Jones @Tjonesonthenba
The Nuggets trail the Lakers 15-9 early on and Michael Malone takes a rage timeout. After Game 1 he mentioned how the Lakers like to leak after contesting jumpers, and they just got a run out from AD on that very play…. – 10:21 PM

Anthony Davis was 0-for-4 from 3 in Game 1, with mostly open looks when DEN sagged off him. Since the 2020 postseason when AD shot 38.3% from 3 and hit a game-winning triple against the Nuggets, he’s shot just 7-for-30 from 3 in 22 postseason games (23.3%) – 8:17 PM

More on this storyline

So as Davis looks ahead to Game 3 on Thursday in L.A., he knows that the team needs to lean on the success they’ve had within the first two games. With that being said though, he admitted that there are points in the game where the team doesn’t know what they’re doing. “Just got to focus on Game 3. We’ve shown that we’re more than capable. We’ve also had stretches where we don’t know what we’re doing on both ends of the floor. And those are the ones that cost us. We got two days to get it right and be ready to win Game 3 on Thursday.” -via Lakers Nation / April 24, 2024
The Nuggets adjusted by having Aaron Gordon guard Davis and leaving Jokic as more of a secondary roamer near the paint. Davis believes the adjustment by the Nuggets isn’t what stopped L.A. from a successful second half of Monday night, though. “We got great looks, we missed. Still tried to do what we were doing before with the ball screens, putting Jokic in ball screens and it was working for us. We didn’t score. In the second half, we only scored 40 points.” -via Lakers Nation / April 24, 2024
“The film session was very revealing with which side of the ball we struggled at,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. “We were great defensively. Offensively, there was a lot of shots we wish we could have back.” -via ESPN / April 24, 2024
Jovan Buha: Darvin Ham on defending Nikola Jokic: “It’s like shit, I don’t know what to do. You just gotta go out there and try to be as disciplined as possible, aggressive and consistent. And have a next-play mentality, man. … Kid is a generational-type player.” -via Twitter @jovanbuha / April 23, 2024
