Saugerties man pleads guilty to burglary just before trial
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Saugerties man pleaded guilty to burglary moments before trial started on Monday. Kirk Shultis, 34, was arrested in March 2022.
Shultis’ arrest stemmed from an investigation from September 2022. On September 2, 2022, Saugerties police responded to a residence on Malden Turnpike in Saugerties for a report of a burglary to a house and a garage. Police say during their investigation, evidence gathered connected this burglary to others in the fall of 2022 in Saugerties.
Shultis is scheduled to be sentenced in July.
“Crimes like the burglary committed by this defendant have the impact of degrading a community’s sense of security,” said Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji. “I commend the collaboration with Saugerties Police Department in this case that has resulted in a successful prosecution, and reiterate our Office’s commitment to vigorously prosecuting such cases.”
