New European airline launches first flights from the UK – and tickets are now on sale
A BRAND new European airline is launching a new route this summer – with tickets going on sale today.
Lufthansa City Airlines, a new airline launched by German flag carrier Lufthansa, was first announced last year.
It aims to expand Lufthansa’s European route network and will be based primarily in Munich, with additional aircraft in Frankfurt.
The airline is launching a small programme of flights to destinations across Europe, including Hanover, Düsseldorf, Bordeaux and Birmingham.
Holidaymakers in Birmingham will soon be able to fly directly to Munich when the new route takes to the skies later this year.
Daily flights will operate between Birmingham Airport and Munich Airport.
An early morning flight will operate between Munich and Birmingham, with flights leaving the German airport at 9.10am.
These earlier flights will operate every day, except Friday and Saturday.
Flights from Birmingham will depart at 10.50am before arriving in Munich at 1.40pm local time.
Return flights will depart from Munich at 3.55pm, landing back in Birmingham at 4.55pm.
Tickets can be booked from today, with flights will then taking to the skies on June 26, 2024.
Sun Online Travel have found one-way economy light fares from Birmingham to Munich from £99 per person, with return tickets costing £228 per person.
A route is also slated to operate between Manchester and Munich – although more details have yet to be released.
If the new routes prove successful, the airline will look to expand its offering.
Lufthansa City Airlines will begin its operations with an Airbus A320.
The fleet will also consist of 40 brand-new fuel-efficient Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

“We are looking forward to new modern Airbus A220 and A320neo deliveries in the coming years.
“For our guests and employees, we are driving forward our renewal and thus strengthening Lufthansa’s planned growth in long-haul traffic.”
It’s not the only airline set to launch this year.
Other new routes
Earlier this week, a regional airline announced that it will be launching a brand-new route from a tiny UK airport.
From the end of June, Southampton Airport will get direct flights to Caean thanks to regional airline Chalair Aviation.
Earlier this month, Ryanair launched brand-new flights from Norwich Airport to several holiday hotspots.
Brit holidaymakers in East Anglia can now fly to Alicante, Faro and Malta from Norwich Airport with Ryanair.
Flights will operate on both Mondays and Fridays, making these routes an ideal choice for a long weekend away.
Ryanair has also launched new flights from Cardiff Airport.

Meanwhile, easyJet is set to operate a brand-new route between London Gatwick and a newly-revamp airport in Italy.
The airline will fly twice weekly from London Gatwick to Pontecagnano (Salerno) Airport, which is currently undergoing a huge £400million renovation.
